Can Indians Marry in Denmark?

•    A final divorce decree, death certificate or annulment document if either partner was previously married.

Do Indian documents need an apostille?

The Danish Agency of Family Law states that documents from non-European Hague Convention countries generally require an apostille from the issuing country. India participates in the Apostille Convention, so an Indian civil-status, divorce or similar document requested for the Danish case will normally need the appropriate Indian apostille.

Do not apostille documents simply because you own them. First confirm which document is required, whether it is the correct final version and whether a translation is also needed. An apostille verifies the origin of a document; it does not repair incomplete content or a mismatch in names.

Is a birth certificate or single-status certificate always required?

No single extra certificate applies automatically to every Indian applicant. The current Danish application guidance does not list each partner’s own birth certificate as a universal standard document. It does list birth certificates for children you have together, and it allows the Agency to request additional documents in an individual case.

Legal stay and the Schengen visa

Indian citizens generally need a short-stay Schengen visa unless they already hold another accepted residence or travel right. A visa normally permits a limited stay; it does not guarantee marriage approval and does not reserve a ceremony.

2.    Obtain only the documents relevant to those circumstances, then arrange any required apostille and authorised translation.

3.    Complete both parts of the Denmark marriage application and pay the official fee.
